Lionel Employee Sample: #643657 Yellow Lehigh Valley Quad Hopper
This Item has been sold. This sale has been certified as Final by the Attorney.
This is a Bright Yellow-Painted Quad Hopper that Lionel made circa 1956/57. It was most probably an undecorated (never heat-stamped) factory reject body-mold that ended up being painted in the Lionel Sample Department. We believe this is Original Lionel Paint because this is the way Lionel did things in their Sample Department and we have similar examples of this color on various sample items, most specificality an SP-Type Caboose. However the Lilac decorating scheme that is a facsimile of the #6436-57" Girl's Hopper is very suspect, we believe a dry-transfer applied post-factory. Nonetheless, this is an interesting display item that came to market from a former Lionel Employee along with several other pre-production mock-up items that we do not have any concerns about. Our Opinion is that it is generally in Excellent Condition, has a chip out of the top edge and a crack underneath the Support Bar (both of which existed before it was painted Yellow). No Box. All Original in our Opinion as stated herein. Please add $20.00 for US-48 Shipping and Insurance.
